One
of the most exciting yet challenging tasks in life is the journey we all
know as college matriculation. In high school I often heard counselors,
advisors, teachers, and even parents talk about the great demands of college.
Once I graduated from high school, I was able to see for myself if everything
I was told was true or not. To my surprise instead of college being a big
bad monster it was more like a needy kitten that required lots of attention.
My most important observation about those who succeeded in my classes was
that they were very organized. The students that made it to class late,
without proper supplies, and sat in the rear of the class were the ones
that barely passed if they passed at all. I
would like to share with you a few of habits I have found to be successful:
| 1. |
Never
arrive late to class and always notify instructor of absences in advance. |
| 2. |
Always read the
material so that you may be ready to participate in the
discussion |
| 3. |
Take detailed
notes and keep them well organized. |
| 4. |
Make study buddies
in each class just in case you need to discuss the material more in
depth. |
| 5. |
Complete all
assignments. |
Lastly, don’t
forget to include God into your schedule. Be sure to pray often and know
that God not only wants you to reach your goals, but He is also able to
help you. I regularly pray for God to help me manage my time in order
to keep me focused. Currently I am enrolled as a junior at California
State Dominguez Hills University and I continue to use the routine that
has helped me thus far. For all current and potential college students,
I charge you to be encouraged, trust God, and work hard. Also, know that
quitting is not an option therefore you must succeed. |
